Bioremediation
Bioremediation is a modern and ecological process that uses natural biological mechanisms to remove contaminants from the environment. Microorganisms, plants, or their enzymes are able to break down, transform, or neutralize hazardous substances such as petroleum products, heavy metals, pesticides, and industrial chemicals.
This approach is based on the natural ability of living organisms to degrade pollutants and convert them into less dangerous or completely harmless substances. The process can take place directly at the site of contamination (in situ) or away from it, where the extracted material is processed under controlled conditions (ex situ).
